he Chinchwad police have recently arrested a gang of four burglars and seized gold and silver ornaments along with an autorickshaw collectively worth Rs 1.89 lakh from them.
The police have identified the suspects as Sunil Talware (28), Rajkumar Kasbe (21), Asha Matin Qureshi (22), all residents of Chinchwad, and Sunil Kudale (24), a resident of Pimpri. The Chinchwad police team led by senior inspector Vitthal Kubade made the arrests.
Kubade said two flats in Walehkar were burgled in January where the suspects had stolen gold and silver ornaments, cash and a digital camera. “While collecting the information about the suspects involved in these burglaries, we got a tip-off about Talware, who is a criminal on police records. We laid a trap and arrested him in Chinchwad,” he said.
“Our investigations have revealed that Talware was recently released from a prison after serving two years conviction period in a burglary case,” Kubade said.
During the sustained interrogation, Talware admitted to his involvement in the two burglaries at Walhekarwadi and also revealed the names of his three accomplices. “We arrested Kasbe, Kudale and Qureshi and recovered gold, silver ornaments and autorickshaw,” Kubade added.
Senior inspector Vitthal Kubade said the gang used to operate during night or early morning. “Qureshi used to conduct the recce of the locked houses under the guise of collecting scrap. Till then, the trio used to wait for her in Kudale’s autorickshaw,” Kubade said.
Kubade said after identifying the locked houses, Qureshi would alert the trio. “Talware and Kasbe then used to enter the premises of the building with equipment to break the locks. Qureshi and Kudale used to wait outside to keep watch,” he said.
Kubade said the suspects used to flee the spot in the autorickshaw. “We are investigating if the gang was involved in more burglaries,” he added.
