Pune: A gang of burglars broke into seven flats in three buildings on Shirole Road in Shivajinagar and made away with cash and jewellery worth Rs 1.57 lakh from two on Wednesday .
Shantanu Kolhapure (29) from Kanchanshri Apartments has lodged a complaint with the Deccan Gymkhana police station. The suspects decamped with Rs 2 lakh cash and gold ornaments, collectively worth Rs 1.25 lakh, from his flat. Also, gold ornaments worth Rs 32,500 were stolen from Ameya Mahajan’s flat in the same building, police said.
“The suspects also targeted three flats in Rajanigandha Apartments and two flats in Krishna Apartments on the same road. However, most of these flats were rented out and empty ,“ said Sucheta Khokale, inspector of the Deccan Gymk hana police station. Khokale sa d Kolhapure runs a chemica supply business. “His father is undergoing treatment at a pri vate hospital in the city . He had kept Rs 2 lakh in his flat for the reatment,“ she said.
The officer said that on Tu esday night after meeting his ather at the hospital, Kolhapu re went to his other flat in Shiva inagar. “On Wednesday mor ning, Kolhapure’s newspaper vendor Mayur Prabhune alerted him after he noticed the broken locks of his flat,“ Khokale said.
He said Kolhapure rushed to his flat to find that Rs 2 lakh cash and gold ornaments, including six necklaces, two gold chains, bracelet worth Rs 9.25 lakh, were missing. “The suspects broke the locks of the main door to gain entry into the flat,“ she said, adding that the suspects also burgled Mahajan’s flat in the same building.
“Mahajan is currently staying in Pashan. He used to come to his flat in Shivajinagar every fortnight. The suspects stole gold ornaments worth Rs 32,500 from his flat,“ Khokale said.
The inspector said the suspects targeted only locked flats.“They may have conducted a recce for a few days before planning the burglary ,“ she said, adding that these buildings do not have a security guard or CCTVs.
Rs 2.9L stolen from house in Kondhwa
Unidentified persons broke into a flat on Salunke Vihar Road and made away with Rs 60,000 cash and gold, collectively worth Rs 2.9 lakh, on Wednesday. Tarun Gandhi, resident of Mapel Nest, has lodged a complaint with the Kondhwa police station. Police said the burglary happened between 12.30pm and 1.45pm when Gandhi was out of the house.
